Info

In the small and medium Lanz models introduced in 1955 there was, for the first time, a true compression-ignition diesel engine. As before, the engine was single-cylinder, two-stroke and splash-lubricated. What was new was the addition of a glow plug and an increase in the compression ratio to 12:1. The allowed fuels remained “commercial-grade diesel fuels, crude oil and naphtha.” The outward appearance was now more like that of other tractors, partly because the rear wheels had been changed from narrow, tall wheels to standard-sized ones. A differential-lock was available as an extra option.

In 1957 Lanz offered options never before seen: a power take-off independent of the driving clutch and creeping gears. Front-axle suspension became standard. In the same year a 40-horsepower model, the D 4016, was introduced to fill the gap below the larger models. Instead of the 2.6-liter engine in the smaller models, it had a 4.2-liter engine.

From the summer of 1958 onwards Lanz tractors were painted John Deere green.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
