Info

Of the four John Deere 5-series models, the second cheapest was the 5G, manufactured by Agritalia in Italy. Like many other tractors based on Agritalia’s basic structure, in addition to the standard model, there were vineyard versions with a width of over one meter (5GV), 1.5-meter-wide versions for orchards (5GF), and GH models with a ground clearance of 78 cm. The standard model was also quite low at 238 cm in height. This was reflected in the generously sized central step of the cabin. In the tractor’s construction, unlike Deere’s own products, the engine was part of the load-bearing structure. The engine was the same mechanically controlled 4.5-liter Deere unit used in the 5M models. Creeping gears were standard. The basic version had 12+12 gears; in Finland, a mechanical shuttle was standard, giving 24+24 gears. There was also an option for an electro-hydraulic shuttle. At the top of the range was the PowrReverser package, which included an oil-bath clutch, an electric direction reverser, and a button clutch. The PTO and four-wheel drive clutches were mechanical as standard. The range of optional equipment was further complemented by an electro-hydraulic lift.

At the beginning of 2014, the engines were replaced by a 3.4-liter unit from Fiat Power Technologies. The transmission now featured a standard electro-hydraulic direction reverser and shuttle. Electric control of the hydraulic valves became standard equipment. A new model option was the low-profile 5GL.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
