The X6.4 series represented “genuine McCormick” and its roots lay in the CX range. However, the line introduced at the end of 2013 featured many new elements. The engine had been switched from Perkins to EEA—McCormick’s own BetaPower—and the 4.5-litre unit used urea injection. Thanks to a three-speed powershift gearbox, it offered 36 forward and 12 reverse gears. A top speed of 40 km/h was achieved at 1,900 rpm, and a 50 km/h version was available as an option. The shuttle-shift response could be adjusted via a potentiometer in the cab. From late 2014 onward, ZF’s stepless VT-Drive transmission was also offered as an alternative.
