Info

The project to develop a tractor, started by Valmet in the late 1940s, was completed in 1952, when the first series of 75 Valmets was produced. The four-stroke carburetor engine used petrol as fuel. The 1.4-liter engine had a power output of 15 hp. There were three gears forward and one backward. The lifting device operated mechanically with a long lever. Valmet tractors were sold by three central cooperatives: Hankkija, Kesko, and OTK. Suitable implements for the small tractor were developed together with domestic work machine manufacturers. Officially, the tractor was simply called Valmet, but later the model designation Valmet 15 was used.

In 1955, an improved version, the Valmet 20, was introduced, which featured a hydraulic lifting device as an optional accessory. Engine power was increased to 22 hp for the petrol version and 19.5 hp for the petrolene version. The front axle was replaced with an angular, beam-structured one. In total, about 9,800 of the small Valmets were produced.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
