The Fiat 94-series was replaced at the beginning of 1996 by the New Holland Fiatagri L-series and the equivalent New Holland Ford 35 models. In Finland most of the sales emphasis was on the smaller machines. Unlike the M-series that had been introduced at the same time, the L-series represented primarily a cosmetic refresh, with Fiat heritage still very much to the fore. The tractors were built in Jesi, Italy, and in the final production stage cabless versions were also assembled in England.
Under the L75’s hood sat a 3.9-liter engine, replacing the 3.6-liter unit in the old 72–94 models. The model range was extended upward by one step: the L95 delivered the 95 hp its name implies and offered a 30 percent torque boost (compared with 20–26 percent on the smaller models). Despite their up-to-date figures, these were still high-revving Iveco engines whose pulling power proved weak next to competing tractors of the same rated output. In Finland the smallest model was fitted with a 12+12 gearbox; the others came either with a 20+12 creeper gearbox or a 24+12 power-shift unit. Versions with 12+4 and 20+8 ratios remained available as well.
Hydraulic output was increased over the previous generation. The smaller models now wore a 44.5 L/min pump, while the two largest used a 55 L/min pump. All but the smallest tractor also featured a separate steering pump. The three-point hitch was mechanical, with lift capacity ranging from 2,900 to 4,200 kg; draft sensing was provided via the lower link arms. PTO engagement was electro-hydraulic, and a ground-speed PTO was standard, with its speed selectable from the cab. Four-wheel drive was switched on electrically, as were the differential locks (again, except on the smallest model). In the Ford-badged variants sold in Finland there were three external hydraulic spool valves, except on the 4635 model.
The cab was deliberately low, giving an overall height of just 249–253 cm. The interior was very spartan. Although Fiat quoted a noise figure of 74 dB, actual measured values were significantly higher; later TL variants were rated at 79 dB, and independent tests on L-series machines recorded 81–82 dB. Forward visibility was good thanks to the hood’s shape and the thin A-pillars. Many other details—such as the instrument panel layout and the stiff-action quick-hitch control—remained unchanged from the earlier Fiats. The turning circle was noticeably tighter than before.
