In 1954 IH replaced its letter‐based model designations with numbers. At the same time the Deering brand name was dropped in favor of International. The first digit of each model number indicated how many plow bottoms the tractor was designed to pull. Both the 300 and 400 series were available as the Farmall row‐crop model or as the lower, wide‐front‐axle multipurpose International tractor. All models offered more engine power than before, and most also had increased displacement. Every Farmall now featured the Fast‐Hitch quick‐attach system first introduced on the Super C (which itself became the 200).
