Info

The IH factory located in Neuss, Germany, manufactured American Farmall models from 1937 onwards. The first diesel model was the 25-horsepower DF-25 introduced in 1951, which was still based on the pre-war American lineup.

In 1952, Germany’s IH replaced its 20-horsepower FG model with the new DED. This model was designed quite independently in Germany. The engine was a completely new 3-cylinder pre-chamber diesel, and the number of gears was increased from four to five. The front axle was suspended. The color was a stronger red than before, and the color of the wheel rims had changed to white. The attachment of the rear wheels was changed to the European style. As was typical in Germany, the differential lock was a standard feature.

The following year, the lineup expanded to three members. The DED was replaced by the DED3, which had minor improvements. Below it, the 2-cylinder DLD2 was introduced, and above it, the 4-cylinder DGD4. The engines were largely similar; only the number of cylinders differed. The letter abbreviations stood for: "Deutscher Leicht Diesel" (German Light Diesel), "Deutscher Einheits Diesel" (German Standard Diesel), and "Deutscher Gross Diesel" (German Large Diesel).

In the final phase of the model series, the transmission was changed to a 6-speed.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
