Eicher started tractor manufacturing in Bavaria in 1937. Before the war, 20- and 22-horsepower models equipped with Deutz water-cooled diesel engines were launched on the market. This was followed in 1946 by a slightly improved 22-horsepower model. New features included, among others, a suspended front axle and ZF transmission (4+1). There was a shortage of materials, and only about 300 tractors were produced between 1945 and 1948.
The rare 30 model produced in 1949 and 1950 was exceptionally equipped with an MWM engine.
The L 28, introduced in 1950, was the first model equipped with an air-cooled Deutz engine. The following year, the 3-cylinder L 40 was introduced, featuring 42 hp.
