Info

Below the Belarus model range, the LTZ-40 made by the Lipetsk tractor factory was introduced to Western markets. It was seen for the first time in Finland in 1964, but actual imports only began in 1968. The LTZ was marketed here under the Belarus brand. Its engine was an air-cooled 4.15-liter direct injection diesel. Alongside rear-wheel drive, there was the LTZ-40A, equipped with automatically engaging four-wheel drive and a suspended front axle. Like the Belaruses, the LTZ-40’s three-point hitch was two-acting. The first models, unlike the larger Belaruses, were sold without a cab, and according to test results, the cab on later models was by far the noisiest on the market. The cab floor was flat, and the pedals came through the floor. The transmission was initially 6+1, then 12+2, and from the late 1960s it was equipped with a shuttle shift.

The 1970 Super model featured a new angular hood design, a hydraulically suspended seat, an alternator, and improved brakes.

The updated LTZ-400 (four-wheel-drive version LTZ-420) arrived in Finland in 1972. Instead of the earlier Junkkari cab, it had a Siro cab equipped with a heater. In 1974, the cab was replaced with the Swedish Fernmoon.

In 1978 (last photo) a new flat-floor cab manufactured by Fernmon was introduced, although the floor was full of various levers. At this stage, the small Belarus still had suspended pedals, unlike later models. The steering was now hydrostatic, and drum brakes were replaced by dry disc brakes. Standard equipment now included three separate double-acting hydraulic valves.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
