Info

The Minsk tractor factory's wheel tractors MTZ-1 and MTZ-2 were introduced in 1953. The technology was borrowed from crawler tractors, trucks, and the Lipetsk factory's wheel tractor KD-35, from which the engine and most of the transmission were sourced. The MTZ-1 was a row-crop model equipped with a narrow front axle, and the MTZ-2 was a conventional wheel tractor. The engine was a 4.1-liter swirl-chamber diesel. Starting was done with a 2-stroke gasoline engine. There were 5 forward and 1 reverse gears. The hydraulics included a draft control system. Approximately 150,000 units of these models were produced in total at Minsk and the JuMZ factory in Ukraine.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
