Bautz

The last Bautz tractor models were the 200 and 300, introduced in 1959. These models were most commonly red, with the engine and rims in gray. Orange, blue, and green colors were also used.

The 200 was the successor to the AS 120 but thoroughly redesigned. Special attention was given to ergonomics. The tractors were long and low. The engine was a 2-cylinder, 1.0-liter MWM producing 15 hp. The 300 had a 1.4-liter, 20-horsepower engine.

The transmission was by Getrag. The 200 had 8+2 gears and the 300 had 7+1. The gear lever was located under the steering wheel. The same main components were used in many other German 15–20 hp tractors. PTO was standard. Hydraulics were optional, with a lift capacity of 550 kg. Alongside the base models, T versions were available, designed for implements mounted between the axles.

Bautz ceased tractor production in 1963 as demand shifted towards larger size classes. Approximately 25,000 Bautz tractors were produced.

Tractors

Bautz 200 - 300

In 1955, the AS 220 was replaced by the AS 240, which featured an air-cooled MWM engine. The transmission was now Bautz's own production, and the lowest gear was called the crawling gear. This model already had a horizontally slatted grille. Another innovation was the V-steering, a V-shaped lever/rod system for the steering, which allowed for a greater wheel turning angle than normal. Similar changes were also made to the AS 180, which replaced the AS 171.

In 1956, Bautz clarified its model designations so that air-cooled models received the AL code and water-cooled models the AW code. The larger models were now AL 180, AW 180, AL 240, and AW 240. All featured a new, horizontally slatted grille. The air-cooled MWM engines had displacements of 1.4 and 1.8 liters, while the water-cooled ones were 1.25 and 1.7 liters. Several wheelbase options were available over the years. The gearboxes always had 5+1 gears.

From 1958 to 1961, Bautz sold Nuffield tractors in Germany to customers needing larger tractors.

In 1959, the 240 models were replaced by the 350 AW and 350 AL models. Like the new 200 and 300 series, the 350 models were red, and the rear fenders were shaped similarly to the smaller models, with headlights mounted on them. Power increased by 25 horsepower.

After the Nuffield collaboration, Bautz started cooperating with Hanomag, and the successor to the 350 was planned to be based on the Hanomag Perfekt.

Bautz AS 180 - 350 AW

In 1952, Bautz introduced two larger models equipped with Güldner engines. The AS 170 had a 1.3-liter engine producing 17 hp, and the AS 220 had a 1.63-liter engine producing 22 hp. The ZF transmission had 5+1 gears. It featured a portal axle at the rear. The front axle was suspended. Standard equipment included a 12-volt electrical system and headlights.

In 1954, the AS 171 switched to a 1.25-liter MWM engine.

Bautz AS 170 - AS 220

Bautz had an established position as a manufacturer of harvesters, and in 1936 it began designing a tractor. However, production did not start until after the war in 1948, when a small series of 11-horsepower models was produced. The following year, Bautz acquired the rights to the 14-horsepower Zanker tractor. Production of this BS 14 AS model also remained limited. In 1950, an improved model AS 14 was introduced into production. It was equipped with a single-cylinder MWM diesel engine. It had 4+1 gears. From this model onward, Bautz's color was standardized as green.

The first Bautz tractor to reach significant production numbers was the 1951 AS 120. It stood out from competitors due to its 2-cylinder engine. The power of the 1.25-liter MWM diesel was initially 12 hp and later 14 hp. The gearbox, manufactured by Bautz itself, had 4+1 gears. There was a PTO at both the rear and the center running at 540 rpm. Standard features included a differential lock, electric start, steering brakes, and a separate handbrake. The 1954 model introduced a fifth gear.

In autumn 1952, the air-cooled AS 122 was introduced alongside it. It had a single-cylinder 0.9-liter MWM engine. At this stage, a hydraulic 3-point hitch also became available.

In 1956, Bautz's model designations were clarified so that air-cooled models received the AL code and water-cooled models the AW code. The small models henceforth were AW 120 and AL 122. The AS/AW 120 was Bautz's overwhelmingly best-selling model with a production total of 11,682 units.
