Info

The Steiger brothers built a frame-controlled tractor for their own use in 1958 in Minnesota. The engine was a 235-horsepower Detroit Diesel. When nearby farmers became interested in the tractor, the Steigers began making them for others in their farm workshop. By 1969, 126 tractors had been produced, which were sold to the vast plains regions of the USA and Canada. The engines ranged from 150 to 328 horsepower.

In 1969, ownership expanded and the company opened a factory in Fargo, North Dakota. At the same time, a network of 66 dealers was established across the country. The tractors were still light green in color, and the technical solutions were mostly the same as before. The models known as Series I were named after big cats. The engines in the smaller models were Caterpillars, and the largest Tigers had 15-liter Cummins engines. The transmissions were Fuller's or Spicer's 10+2-speed. Axle assemblies were purchased from various manufacturers, such as Dana and Clark. The cab was isolated from the chassis, and air conditioning was available as an option. Dual wheels were standard equipment both front and rear.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
