In 1977, PT models were introduced alongside the Series III ST models. These had a narrower frame and a hydrostatic power take-off, which delivered 125 horsepower. These models were 12.5 cm narrower than the ST models and had a smaller fuel tank.
Starting from 1978, PTA models were added to the lineup, featuring an Allison automated transmission. There were 8+2 gears with two ranges and gear automation operating within each range. In later PTA models, there were 10+2 gears and slower gear ratios.
