Info

In 1967 the 67-horsepower Same Leone replaced the Same 360 and became the world’s first tractor with its front-axle differential positioned on the centerline. Its engine was an air-cooled V4. The earlier Ariete 480 model was succeeded by the 85-horsepower Ariete, which, unlike other Same models of the same era, had an in-line engine. Both the Leone and the Ariete were very compact in size. The largest Same models of that period were the Bisonte—equipped with a 120-horsepower V6 in a ten-unit prototype run—and the Dinosauro, whose V8 produced 160 hp. The lift capacity of the Bisonte and the Dinosauro was as much as 8,500 kg.

In 1972 the Leone was replaced by the 67-horsepower Corsaro and the 77-horsepower Saturno. The Corsaro’s new four-cylinder engine was a 3.6-liter inline unit instead of its predecessor’s 3.8-liter V4, while the Saturno’s engine had a displacement of 4.156 liters, the same as many later models. Like the Leone, the transmission was an 8+4. Unlike the smaller models, a dual clutch was standard. The separate oil supply for the hydraulic transmission was a minimal 12 liters. The cab shown in the picture is the 1976 Swedish version.

In 1976 the engines received a slight boost in power and the Corsaro’s lift capacity was increased. The Corsaro and Saturno continued alongside the new model ranges introduced in 1978 for a couple more years. Both the Corsaro and the Saturno were produced in quantities exceeding 20,000 units.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
