Info

The first Versatile tractors fell into the 100–145 hp class. In 1973 the company introduced its first broader model range, featuring tractors of up to 300 hp. The smallest, the Versatile 300, was the successor to the earlier 125 model. It was powered by a Cummins 6.2 L V6 developing 142 hp and used a hydro-mechanical transmission with two purely mechanical road gears. For light work you could engage the hydrostatic drive, and for heavy field work the hydro-mechanical mode—where the combination of two gears and the hydrostat provided high drawbar pull with stepless speed adjustment between 3 and 12.5 km/h. Switching between modes required using the clutch. A PTO was standard, but the three-point hitch was an option. Only 200 units of the 300 model were built, all in 1973.

The larger range comprised four models rated between 220 and 300 hp, all powered by Cummins engines. The gearbox was a 12+4 constant-mesh unit, followed by a Dana-Spicer two-disc ceramic 14″ clutch. On Versatile tractors the brake was positioned on the driveshaft. Air conditioning was offered as an optional extra in the cab. At this stage Versatile marketed its tractors primarily on single wide tires rather than duals.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
