Info

BMC merged with the Leyland group in 1967, and the tractors were renamed Leyland instead of Nuffield. The first Leylands were the 344 and 384, introduced at the end of 1969. They were equipped with 3.4- and 3.8-liter four-cylinder engines, a 10+2 transmission familiar from the Nuffields, and a dual clutch. The model numbers indicated the engine displacement and number of cylinders. Compared to the Nuffields, the most noticeable changes were the blue color and new design. In addition, efforts had been made to reduce vibration and noise as well as to improve the placement of controls.

At the end of 1971, the 253 model was introduced, equipped with a Perkins 2.5-liter three-cylinder engine (47 hp). The technical differences between this model and the larger Leylands were quite minor. Power steering was available as an optional extra, as it was on the bigger models as well. The cab used in Finland and manufactured by Junkkari resembled the factory-fitted cab in design but had slightly smaller windows.

In Finland, Leylands were sold as Economy and Manor models, the latter featuring hydraulics and a power take-off independent of the drive clutch, as well as power steering.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
