Info

In the early 1950s, Hanomag entered the market for smaller tractors, where previously it had only had a venture based on passenger car technology. The 16-horsepower R16's engine was a two-cylinder cut-down version of the larger models' 3- and 4-cylinder engines. Unlike those, the engine was part of the load-bearing structure. There were 5+1 gears and 8+2 with crawling gears. The hydraulic pump output was 12 liters per minute, manufactured by Teves. However, in 1953 it was replaced by a Bosch pump with a capacity of 16 liters per minute. The clutch was branded Fichtel & Sachs, and the steering gear was ZF. Initially, the grille had two horizontal bars, but in 1953 Hanomags received a grille decorated with five vertical rows. A differential lock was available as an optional extra. The R19 introduced in 1953 was practically the same tractor, but the engine speed was increased.

In 1957, the hood was rounded, and the model designation changed to R217, similar to the newer model series. The same model was known as the R425 in export markets.

The data has been collected primarily from brochures. In some cases, sources contain conflicting information. In such cases, we have attempted to select the most reliable information. There is particularly significant variation in speed data, which varies depending on factors such as tire size. For tires, only the size most commonly used in Finland is listed. Other changes during the model history have been addressed in the text section. For the front axle lock, the Finnish term "hammaslukko" (gear lock) is used for all 100% locks.
