Deutz-Fahr’s first tractors fitted with a continuously variable transmission—the TTV 1130, 1145 and 1160—were unveiled in spring 2001, and deliveries began in August of the same year. The transmission was ZF’s Eccom, which John Deere also used in its own CVTs, although each manufacturer employed its own control electronics. The hydraulic portion of the drive varied from 0 to 25 percent, and an almost entirely mechanical drive was used in four speed ranges—1–3 km/h, 7–9 km/h, 12–16 km/h and 30.05–40 km/h—to achieve the highest possible efficiency in heavy-duty work.

The mechanical section of the transmission consisted of four planetary gear sets and multi-plate clutches, which also managed forward/reverse shifts. On the hydraulic side there was a variable-displacement pump whose swashplate position determined the speed and direction of a fixed-displacement hydraulic motor. The less oil the motor pumped, the smaller the hydrostatic contribution. The accelerator pedal could be used either in automatic mode as a speed pedal or in the conventional way, with stepless speed control by pulling a lever. The armrest also housed buttons for controlling the three-point hitch and hydraulic valves.

The TTV range used the same 7.1-liter, charge-air-cooled engines as the Agrotron 120, 135 and 150 models, with electronic engine management. Standard equipment included load-sensing hydraulics with a 120 l/min pump, four external hydraulic service valves (two electro-hydraulically controlled), and power-beyond quick couplers. Lift capacity was 9,240 kg. Cab suspension was mechanical, with an optional pneumatic system, and the 50 km/h version featured additional hydraulic-pneumatic front-axle suspension.

In 2002, the TTV gained SDS (Sixteen-function preprogramming, e.g. for headland management) as standard. In spring 2003 the transmission control electronics were upgraded to the second generation, and the engines were replaced with charge-air-cooled units meeting forthcoming emissions standards.
